New England College, also known as NEC, is a private four-year liberal arts college. The college is located in Henniker in New Hampshire. NEC has an average enrollment of around 1800 students including undergraduates and graduate students. The college is known for its innovations in education. The school runs an open enrollment wherein students can get their degrees through the traditional means or through the internet.
The school was created in 1946. It was built for students on the G.I. Bill after World War II, who wanted to attend college. The Contoocook River runs through the center of the town of Henniker and along the main campus. A covered bridge joins 20 acres of athletic fields to the main campus. The campus is located in 26 acres of rural land and features 30 buildings.
NEC offers associate's degrees, bachelor's degrees, and master's degrees. There are also several student organizations in the school including different kinds of student government committees, the International Student Association, and the Adventure Bound Outdoor Leadership, Environmental Action Committee (EAC). Students also participate and publish with The New Englander, an award winning campus newspaper. Students can also participate with WNEC-FM, an online streaming campus radio station. There are also several Greek life chapters in the campus including the co-ed Alpha Phi Omega, Phi Mu Delta, Kappa Delta Phi NAS, and Theta Phi Alpha.
The New England College sports teams compete in the NCAA Division III athletic sports. They field teams in baseball, basketball, lacrosse, ice hockey, field hockey, softball, cross-country, and indoor and outdoor track and field, and soccer.NEC Athletics begins competing in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) after more than a decade of being part of the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The school colors are blue and white and the school nickname are the Pilgrims.
